If my instincts are right, I'll be looking for another vampire book, so while you're here feel free to drop a recommendation if you have one! I enjoyed Blood and Roses by Aislinn Kerry recently, but it didn't fully satisfy my craving. I've tried to search the book (no luck), although maybe I just haven't found the right keyword. If this is never discussed, it's a plot hole that I can't overlook and it's probably foreshadowing more plot holes to come. Do we ever learn how Cronin found him? Because we learn that Cronin has been waiting centuries to find his fated, and that his friend kept Alec a secret for all these years and watched over him with a team of vampires to make sure he's safe. So, Cronin turns up at the police station where Alec works and transports him away. I'm hoping someone can provide a spoiler for me: I'm now reading Cronin's Key and I have to say that the writing is noticeably better in comparison (I've previously enjoyed Evolved and The Weight of It All so I know that this author has some talent) but it's not without its flaws. Today I DNF'd Dark Flame by Kat Silver and How to Vex a Vampire by Alice Winters because of the low quality writing and threadbare world-building. In the underground depths of China, amidst a war with the Terracotta Army, they will find out just what the Key is, and what Alec means to the vampire world.I've been looking for a good vampire book and so far my luck has been terrible. This time their investigations lead them to the borders of China and Mongolia-but it's not what lies in the pits beneath that worries Alec.
With the help of Jorge, a disturbing vampire-child with the gift of foresight, Alec and Cronin face a new kind of war. But the ramifications of drinking such powerful blood starts a ripple effect. And given Alec's inability to be changed into a vampire, Cronin is free to drink from him at will. They know Alec's blood is special, though its true purpose still eludes them.
